but didn’t River kind of… blackmail him into marrying her? I mean I love 11/River but… didn’t she say she wouldn’t touch him unless he married her? So it’s more like she told HIM the world was ending and that once he married her it would be fine?

but anyway: River did not want to marry him, nor it was her convoluted plan to force him to marry her. she loved him, yes, that’s why she refused to kill him, froze time, built a distress beacon, sent all these signals to get help. she refused to touch him, because that would mean that the time would start again and she’d kill him (‘I’ll be by the lake Silencio killing you.’). all River wanted was: a) tell him that he is loved and needed, b) show him that if time can be frozen and he is still alive then maybe there is a way to save him permanently, in their reality/time stream, c) ask him to help her figure it out. at no point she mentions or says that he has to marry her. yes, she mentions that she is described as the woman who kills him or the woman who marries him - but that’s what she read in the books. 

see, the thing is that nothing would’ve happened if the Doctor hasn’t been such a ‘I’ll do it myself’ jerk. had he told River about the fact that he is a Teselecta earlier, she would have had no problems with touching him. the second he tells her to look inside his eyes - she understands then that he won’t die, and she’s ready to touch him right then and there. it was him who put that bow tie around her hand, he was the one who asked her parents for her hand, it was he who said ‘you are the woman who married me’ and ‘wife, I have a request’. River would have agreed to help him without the whole ceremony. she was as shocked as Amy and Rory by his proposition.

and really. forcing the Doctor? when did someone force him to do anything. I mean, he is not a 5yo that you can mold however you want. he has his own will, his own brain, he is able to make his own decisions. he made a decision to marry River. no one forced him to do it. so really, saying that ‘he was forced to marry River’ is a disgrace to the character, not to mention that it goes against anything he has ever done. if he hadn’t wanted to marry her, he would have find another  435876348096 ways to go around it. trust me (I am a bachelor of science).

I would like to thank all of you for putting up with my what 4 hour? long DW blogging spree. It’s been fun, it’s been traumatic, and normal sane blogging  will resume probably tomorrow.

So I still stick with the belief that that wasn’t River’s final ep. Once again, there was an awful lot going on, and I don’t see Moffat saying goodbye to his baby in an episode where there is already so much happening. Also, River knew what Trenzalore was, which seems to suggest that the Doctor has told her about it, which he probably wouldn’t have done until after he’d done it. 

While there was definitely a farewell aspect, I feel like it was the Doctor giving River closure and a goodbye so that she could let go, as well as him coming to terms with his guilt over her death. So I feel like it was the Doctor telling River goodbye, more than saying goodbye to River as a whole, if that makes sense. I think we still have that to come. There are still questions that need answering, and I really think Moffat will keep River around for as long as he can get away with.  

It was a bit too jarring I think for that to really be her final appearance. Moffat’s a better storyteller than that.
